The course will take the runners through a variety of terrains. It starts out on the top of Chatuge Dam in Hayesville NC, then off into the woods and over a trail that lets out in a campground, then out onto the road. The course, for the most part is shaded, with light traffic on the road. After winding around for a few miles it lets out on a field with a mowed trail to run on next to the dam and ends with a run up a hill to the finish line. We have used this run for triathlon races in the past 2 years with just a few miles cut off the distance. It's the kind of race that every level runner can enjoy. It's not to hard for the beginner, and not to easy for the veterans. |

This was the first year for the Great Smoky Mountains Triathlon Club to host a half marathon and 10k run. While I was shocked to see that the half marathon was much better attended than the 10k, racers from both events were pleased with the course and vowed to come back and attend other evernts the club has planned for the summer. We are planning another half marathon, 10k & 5k event for July. It will be called the Missionary Fire Cracker Fun Run. All the money from this event will be used to help send high school students on mission trips this summer. I hope that racers of past events will come and attend and help support this worthy couse. | ![]() 10k racer &Race Director Scott Hanna |
