Half Marathon, 10k, 5k Runs & 2 Mile Walk |
Come and join us in our first annual Missionary Firecracker Fun Run & Walk The Great Smoky Mountains Triathlon Club donates money to worthy causes each year from the races it puts on. This year we are giving all the money from this race to 3 local area high school students going on foreign mission trips. This money will be used to help pay for the the flight and their stay in the foreign country they are going to. So if you want to join us in the half marathon, 10k, 5k or just come to the race site and walk 2 miles to help earn money for this cause, we invite you to come. |
All 4 events will take place on and around the Chatuge Dam, Hayesville NC, (seen above with a black line near center of the map) The walk will consist of 2 round trips on the Dam. the 5k will be run on the Dam and in a groomed field next to the Dam. The 10k & Half Marathon will go out onto the road and circle the Dam for one loop for the 10k and two loops for the Half Marathon . |

Chatuge Dam is located in Hayesvlle NC, just 2 hours from Atlanta, Chattanooga, Knoxville & Asheville. It's always cooler here in the mountains, and with an 8am start, the race will be over before the days heat gets bad. With the lake next to the starting area, you can bring your bathing suits and take a cool swim with your friend and family after the race. There are campgrounds within 1/2 mile of the start, 4 star resorts and restaurants for all tastes. Go to the front page and get driving directions by clicking on maps to Races to get driving directions to Hayesville from all over the Southeast. (Hayesville is located on the map below with a yellow dot on the map.) This is a race you'll enjoy and remember for a long time, and if your like everyone else that has come to the mountains to participate in our races, you'll come back and bring some friends. |

Missionary Firecracker 500 Note: Today I went back to the Dam and drove the course 2 times and rode it 1
time on my bike to make double sure that the course was a true Half Marathon as it was promoted to be. It was exactly
13.15 miles (give or take a few yards). So if you got a really good time for yourself it must have been due to
all the hard training you've been doing, not because the course was short. If you did the whole course as it was
marked out and was on the course maps that were on the table, you did good and congradulations are in order. Men Thomas Howell 1:18'18 Women Erica Ryan 1:27'17
10k Run 1st Place Overall Men James Lee 32'53 Women Julie Dauphine 36'45
5k Run 1st Place Overall Men T.J. Briston 21'55 Women Dana Austin 24'39
