Directions to Races

Note: The directions below will get you to Chatuge Dam. For spacific directions go to the race page for details. Not all the race start at Chatuge Dam, but they all take place around the lake.

The map below shows Lake Chatuge in the center. The races start at different places on the lake. The second map at the bottom of the page gives a look at all the major roads that come into the area. Hayesville and Lake Chatuge are marked with a yellow dot in the middle.

Look for signs at the major intersections in Hiawassee Ga and Hayesville NC to direct you to the actual race site.

The area offers plenty of things to do if you should decide to come early and stay late.



From the Atlanta area east side: Go north on I-85 to the 985 split headed toward Gainsville. Stay on 985 until you get to Clayton Ga. Go west (left) at the light on Hwy 76 for about 25 miles to Hiawassee Ga. Go through town about 4 miles. At the light of hwy 76 and 17 go right toward Hayesville NC. About 5 miles you will get to the first light, go right about ½ mile to light (look for sign saying Chatuge Dam) go right about ¾ mile to fork in road, stay left for the dam and start area. Please check your map so you can see all the turns. It's easy to get here, but you need to make sure it's clear in your mind. See you at the race.


From the Atlanta area west side: Go north on I-75 to 575. Stay on that 4 lane hwy for 90 minutes. You will pass through Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Young Harris and come to a light at hwy 17 toward NC and Hayesville. Go left at that light. About 5 miles you come to a light, go right, about ½ mile to a light (look for sign saying Chatuge Dam) go right about ¾ mile to fork in road, stay left for the dam and start area. Please check your map so you can see all the turns. It's easy to get here, but you need to make sure it's clear in your mind. See you at the race.


From Chattanooga and Knoxville area: Take I-75 to Exit 20 (hwy 64 by pass) go east. Stay on Hwy 64 ALL THE WAY TO HAYESVILLE NC. You will go through Murphy NC where the hwy goes right at a light, but it's still Hwy 64. When you come to the 2nd light in Hayesville go right, about ¾ mile to fork in road, stay left for the dam and start area. Please check your map so you can see all the turns. It's easy to get here, but you need to make sure it's clear in your mind. See you at the race.


From the Asheville area: Take I-40 west past Asheville to exit 27. It forks there and you head to Waynesville and Sylva on hwy 23-74. In Sylva (about 25 miles from the I-40 split) you will see a sign to Franklin, take it. Just stay on that 4 lane hwy, go through Franklin and up over the mountain and down into Clay Co. The very first stop light in Hayesville there will be a sign for Chatuge Dam. Follow those signs. It's 1.9 miles from the stop light on Hwy 64 to the starting line. Please check your map so you can see all the turns. It's easy to get here, but you need to make sure it's clear in your mind. See you at the race.

From Greenville area: Get to Clemson and jump on Hwy 76. You will go through Clayton. Stay on hwy 76 about 25 miles to Hiawassee Ga. Go through town about 4 miles. At the light of hwy 76 and 69 go right toward Hayesville NC. About 5 miles you will get to the first light, go right about ½ mile to light (look for sign saying Chatuge Dam) go right about ¾ mile to fork in road, stay left for the dam and start area. Please check your map so you can see all the turns. It's easy to get here, but you need to make sure it's clear in your mind. See you at the race.

From the Charlotte Area: go south on I-85 to Greenville (check your map to see the exit to get on Hwy 123w) get on hwy 123w headed for Clemson then get on hwy 76 w headed for Seneca and Clayton Ga. Just stay on 76 w after Clayton going toward Hiawassee Ga. You are within 5 minutes of race venues in Hiawassee. Check sponsors page for hotel, motel, and resort listings. Clayton Ga has hotels that have helped to sponsor the races and are located 35 minutes from the race sites.
