November 18 Great Smoky Mountains Mountain Gobbler Half Marathon and 5k |
It was a cool day, but no rain and the half marathon and 5k got started on time. This was a new course for the half and most of the runners found it to be a good challenge. We did cover some of the same trail as our July Half, but the bulk of the run was on new ground. Carl Rundell came in from Birmingham Michigan to win with a time of 1:13:47. He was moving!! That's just a little over 5:30 per mile. The field was very close for all the runners. Our first women to finish was Carolyn Mathers from Morganton Ga, with a winning time of 1:43:44. Carolyn comes to a lot of the races here in the mountains and we are proud to see her here racing with us. Our 5k run was dominated by the youth with 15 year old Jordan Turner finishing in 18.23 and 12 year old Julie Stevenson in the blazing time of 24.01 Good job!! As cold as it was yesterday, I was glad to get it done. When I woke up this morning there was 2 inches of snow on the ground. |
July Half Marathon Photo I'll be posting pictures of the Mountain Gobbler in a few days. Stay tuned!! |
